Corpus Clock

The time clock's face is a splashing 24-carat gold-plated stainless steel disc, about 1.5 metres (4.9 foot) in diameter. It has no hands or amounts, however displays the time by launching individual slits in the time clock face backlit with blue LEDs; these slits are organized in 3 concentric rings presenting hrs, moments, as well as minutes.

The prevailing over visual function of the time clock is a sculpture of a grim-looking, partaking of, steel bug like a grasshopper or locust. The sculpture is literally the time clock's escapement (see underneath). Taylor calls this monster the Chronophage (virtually "time eater", from the Classical [chronos] time, and [phago] I consume). It shifts its mouth, showing up to "eat up" the seconds as they pass, as well as every now and then it "blinks" in seeming to be total satisfaction. The creature's consistent dynamics makes an eerie grinding music that suits its task. The Chronophage is affectionately recognized by pupils variously as "Rosalind", a name minted by the college and university's Pralector, or "Hopsy".

Underneath the time clock is an engraving from the Vulgate 1 John 2:17: mundus transportation et concupiscentia eius (" the globe passeth away, as well as the lust thereof").

The time clock is entirely accurate only the moment every five seconds.
