No platform can claim to be hundred percent secure, in the past two incidents have been reported where the security of Facebook has come under questioning. The platform has been doing a pretty good job as compared to other social sites but still hackers and spammers detect loose holes in the system and try to exploit them.

Recently " Roger Thompsan " chief research office at AVG found that some applications on Facebook were hacked and they try to install antispyware to the users system. Never before any applications have been reported that contain viruses or have been hacked .

The virus makes use of an "adobe patch" and tries to install the patch which is a virus (Trojan). When tracked the virus leads to a Russian website, the applications however were not made with the intention of attacking end users, in fact the application developers are themselves victims of data snatchers.

"City Fire Department" was the first application that was reported with anomalies and other applications which are also under attack are "My Girly Space", "Ferrarifone", "Mashpro", "My name is", "Pass-it-on", "Fill in the" and "Aquarium life". It is advised that users do not visit these applications until they are fully cleaned up.

Facebook has been officially notified by AVG about these applications but it will not be easy to find and fix these loose holes. Facebook however will surely get over this problem but at the same time it is major concern for the developers. Features like " Facebook Connect " which allow access to websites via Facebook credentials may also become source of incoming threats as site which contain virus can affect the users Facebook profile and then propagate throughout the network.
